The Rainbow Trout was first introduced at the end of the 19th century as a game fish. It is native to the Western United States where it lives in conditions similar to hose of the Brown trout Salmo trutta.
Most rainbow trout in the UK are stocked on an annual basis for game anglers but there are some self sustaining populations in the UK.
They compete with our native trout for habitat.
