Originally introduced as a game species, these birds now number over 50.000 pairs in the UK. Found near many bodies of freshwater and even in urban parks. They can cause problems in freshwater where their droppings can cause problems with raising levels of nutrients. Their droppings can also be very unsightly due to their sheer quantity in public parks. They also compete with livestock for available grass where this is in short supply and will cause damage to crops. |
